Chaloner Associates is partnering with the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science (ACWIS) on a search for a versatile writer with a specialization in science. Founded in 1944, the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute of Science develops philanthropic support for the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, one of the world’s premier scientific research institutions. The Weizmann Institute is a center of basic multidisciplinary scientific research and graduate study, addressing crucial problems in technology, medicine and health, energy, agriculture and the environment. The Science Writer reports to the VP, Marketing Communications & Public Affairs and will be responsible for:
– Writing/editing fundraising proposals for a non-scientific audience
– Writing/editing summaries of scientific research for a lay audience
– Drafting compelling letters to potential donors explaining funding needs for scientific research
– Writing/editing articles based on scientific lectures and interviews with researchers
– Contributing as a marketing writer/editor to promotional materials, including newsletters, magazine, brochures, direct mail, and website content
– Editing existing literature
– Managing and tracking the distribution of fund raising proposals

Requirements:
– Excellent writing and editing skills are essential, with attention to the highest standards of grammar
– Ability to make scientific concepts accessible to a broad audience
– Versatile writing styles (i.e. promotional and journalistic)
– Experience in science writing/journalism; must be able to translate complex science for a broad, general audience
– Familiarity with a wide range of scientific fields
– Superior Internet research skills
– Excellent project management skills
– Successful at teamwork and collaborating with others
– Demonstrated interest in science and technology news and developments; a degree is the sciences is a plus
– Knowledge of grant writing very helpful
