Join SWINY and tour one of America’s top microbreweries!
Tour – Drink – Eat (Pizza) – Socialize
(who says science writers can’t keep it simple?)
Saturday, October 14 from 12:30 to 5 pm
Brooklyn Brewery
(79 North 11th Street, Williamsburg)
(Just one subway stop from Manhattan to Brooklyn’s trendiest neighborhood)
Brooklyn Brewery’s been brewing award-winning beer since 1987. We’ll tour the facility, see how beer is made, and then enjoy a mug or two along with pizza.
You might also want to check out Williamsburg, one of New York’s most exciting neighborhoods for writers, artists and boutiques.
We’ve also invited our own yeast expert, renowned yeast geneticist (and longtime beer-lover) Jim Hicks of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. He’ll give a short talk about his seminal research on yeast genetics. Then, if we can get him off topic, we can learn about what kind of potable beverages top yeast researchers were making in their labs back in the 70s and 80s.
So join us on Saturday, October 14. We’ll meet at 12:30. Tour starts promptly at 1 pm.
Admission includes two beers and pizza afterwards.
