Job Title
News Intern, ScienCentral Inc.
Freelance, New York City
Job Description
ScienCentral is an independent company that produces 90-second news packages for ABC local news affiliate stations nationwide, as well as educational, documentary and other non-news projects related to science. Our news stories are seen by millions of people across the country, and our interns get to be involved in all aspects of production in a casual and friendly environment.
We are seeking an intern to help producers with the tasks associated with stories/projects (research, logging, fact checking, assisting on shoots, etc.), and learn and help with multimedia/web production. Interns are also encouraged to produce TV news stories of their own, depending on experience. Generally, you are expected to be a news junkie and science nut.
We are seeking candidates with reporting/writing experience (TV preferred) and video skills. Those with a journalism background buttressed by science writing or science classes are preferred. Good computer skills and the ability to handle the pressure of immediate and inflexible deadlines are necessary. Extra skills like shooting, non-linear editing, graphics/effects, or web production are a big plus.
Internships are three months, and at our option may be extended another three months. Pay is $7.15 per hour. We prefer someone who can work a 40-hour week at our offices in Manhattan, but part-time/flex-time could be considered for the right candidate. We are not interested in any freelancers or people interested in working from remote locations.
Apply by sending cover letter and resume to jobs@sciencentral.com and please put “INT 1-08” in the subject line. No calls please.
