We are seeking a Press Relations Officer reporting to the Director of Communications. The qualified candidate will possess news and public relations writing expertise, excellent editing skills and attention to detail. Prior project management experience is preferred. Qualified candidates will also be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and be willing to simultaneously manage multiple time-sensitive projects
Duties and Responsibilities
– Position the Academy’s policy and research agenda in the media
– Promote NYAM events and activities to various audiences
– Work with the Web Administrator to maintain the online press room
– Field media requests–including on very tight deadlines–and maintain contact databases, organize resources, and assist reporters and commentators
– Plan and write promotional materials, including press releases, media advisories, invitations, and brochures
– Keep abreast of current events or trends in areas of interest of the Academy to suggest strategies for highlighting NYAM’s expertise in those areas through events, releases, press briefings or other activities
– Compile media lists and contribute to database and mailing list maintenance
– Help track and disseminate NYAM publicity
Education/Experience
– Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public communication or related discipline
– Minimum of 1-3 years of journalism, reporting, marketing, communications, public relations or media relations experience
– Strong understanding of the newsgathering, writing and editing process
– Demonstrated writing experience
– Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
– Knowledge of APA Style and other accepted formats
– Hardworking with an ability to take initiative and work independently and/or with little supervision
– Highly organized with ability to multi-task
– Ability to clearly and articulately communicate the company’s mission and brand to external audiences
