Job Description
Rockefeller University‘s Office of Communications and Public Affairs seeks a science communications professional to join our award-winning team of science writers.

The ideal candidate, detail-oriented and able to juggle multiple projects at once, will generate news and feature stories to document and promote discoveries made in the university’s laboratories to the university’s internal and external audiences. Will maintain relationships with a “beat” of approximately 30 laboratories and stay abreast of their work, recognize newsworthy discoveries and develop story ideas, interview faculty members and other laboratory personnel, and generate clear, lively copy for use in the university’s media relations and outreach efforts, including printed newsletters, magazines, and the university’s electronic newswire. The Science Writer may also perform other editorial and media relations duties as assigned.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree or higher preferred. Must be an exceptionally sharp communicator, able to quickly digest highly complex basic biomedical scientific research and translate it to compelling copy. A minimum of one to three years of science writing experience in a journalism or public relations setting. Must have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently under deadline constraints, and a high level of creativity.
