Job Description
Scientific Communications Supervisors manage multiple accounts while building their proficiency and the necessary skills needed to lead and manage teams. They provide tactical counsel to clients, and manage the appropriate implementation on a variety of projects in a timely, deadline-focused basis. They also provide counsel to other healthcare offices within the agency, and assume responsibility for appropriate projects and initiatives led by other offices. The Supervisor is the first level of management within the agency.

Primary Responsibilities
Client
– Demonstrate a solid understanding of client’s business and industry
– Maintain regular client contact and prospect information
– Develop long term plans and program recommendations for clients
– Provide client counsel on tactical matters, linked to strategic plans and communication of scientific or clinical data
– Interact with clinical/scientific leaders on the client side
– Client training and backgrounding, including preparing and delivering tutorials on relevant scientific subjects
– Generate new ideas and opportunities to ensure client program success
– Develop client presentations

Media
– Know the industry’s issues that directly and indirectly affect the client
– Demonstrate a well-developed knowledge of client relevant media
– Generate ideas for media outreach and pitch efforts
– Draft media relations materials
– Implement special public relations events such as press conferences

Writing
– Develop proposals, press releases, customer profiles, bylined articles, science writer’s guides and other press materials
– Interpret and translate complex clinical or scientific data for consumer and trade press
– Communicate credibly with professional audiences
– Account for quality control and final review of all letters, memos, meeting reports, and client materials
– Instruct staff in the areas of writing and editing as necessary
– Contribute to the development of strategic client plans

Team Management
– Contribute to work plan of junior team members
– Ensure quality work from team in order to meet/exceed client expectations
– Training and development of staff, including preparing and delivering tutorials on relevant scientific subjects
– Serve as a role-model to other team members
– Attend account reviews and staff meetings – provide ongoing communications and feedback
– Successfully grow existing accounts
– Actively participate in agency development and assist with new business

Administrative Support
– Manage the time spent by each team member to ensure the team is on budget
– Track/enter time with precision and on a day-to-day basis
– Monitor group budgeting, revision, and account assignments
– Perform other administrative tasks as assigned

Requirements:
– PhD in life sciences (molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, physiology)
– Excellent writing and presentation skills
– Experience in communications or medical education
– Some exposure in client relationships
