Job Description:
Brooklyn Botanic Garden seeks an experienced editor to join our team of passionate and creative communicators. The BBG editor will write and develop content for the Garden’s award-winning website, gardening newsletter, and various other products of the Garden’s horticultural publishing program.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will produce original and repurposed content for bbg.org, including image galleries, articles, blog posts, and event promotions, and assign and edit the BBG Plants & Gardens News newsletter, published three times a year. In addition, the BBG editor will collaborate with colleagues in the Science, Horticulture, and Education divisions to write and edit interpretive, educational, and marketing materials, brochures, articles, and blogs.
Qualifications:
Applicants should have five or more years of experience in a related editorial position (with two or more years’ experience writing/producing content for the web), along with excellent assigning, editing, research, writing, communication, and organizational skills. The ability to set, meet, and enforce deadlines is essential. The position requires fluent knowledge of design and word processing software and experience with basic web tools such as HTML and/or CMS platforms as well as social media sites and web communities. A degree in English or journalism and background in horticulture or plant sciences is preferred. Candidates should be comfortable working in a nonprofit environment.
