Job Description:
The Manager of Content Development, Pre-Health Programs will work with a team of Content Managers and manage an editorial team. Each team will be responsible for the creation of high-quality, engaging, and diverse print and digital materials for Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions’ MCAT, DAT, OAT, and PCAT courses. The highly motivated individual selected for this role will take initiative and project ownership as Kaplan combines its experience and expertise with its rich store of performance data to build products that leapfrog those of the competition in effectiveness, efficiency, and quality.
Job Responsibilities
• Manage out-of-house content developers (writers, editors, and vendors) of print, video, audio, and other assets, including multimedia assets
• Serve as a team lead in specific areas of subject-matter expertise in creation of multimedia assets to form a core remedial library for the MCAT.
• Function as a subject matter expert for the MCAT (primarily), DAT, OAT, and PCAT tests and the topics covered on those tests
• Ensure that content is developed in accordance with specific project plans and to the highest quality standards
• Coordinate schedules, deliverables, and dependencies with the Project Management and Technology Operations teams
• Provide context and feedback from the content development perspective to the Business team during product definition phases
• Review requirements documents, and ensure compliance of the requirements on various projects
• Create functional requirements documentation, outlines, and prototypes as needed, and communicate changes to editorial team members immediately
• Develop and use writing templates, style guides, training, and iterative feedback to create high quality content that is consistent in style and, where relevant, test-like
• Serve as an authority on matters of test-likeness and teachability
• Code and prepare manuscript for formatting
• Serve as QA resource in a variety of media
• Review art, animation, and photo specifications and route requests through the production and approval process
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Enjoy consuming content and learning across a variety of media types
• The ideal candidate has experience developing educational content in a variety of media and has knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style
• Desire to stay current with evolving media and learn actively on the job
• Ability to thrive under the pressure of deadlines
• High level of comfort working collaboratively as part of a multi-functional team, and independently takes initiative and stands as a leader of his/her editorial team
• Proficient in MS Office suite
• Excellent organizational, communication, and grammar skills and attention to detail
Requirements
• Scored in the 90th percentile on the MCAT, DAT, OAT, or PCAT
• Bachelors degree in relevant subject required, Graduate degree preferred
• The ideal candidate has taught prep classes for one of the four tests
• Proven ability to produce quality work within expedited timelines
• Experience writing, editing, or producing in an academic, professional, or educational context
