Job Description:
The Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) seeks a public outreach consultant to broadly disseminate information about advancements in research. SPSP is a nonprofit, scientific organization of over 7,000 researchers, professionals, and students who study how cultural and societal forces, situational influences, and personality and other individual differences shape the way people think, feel, and behave.

The consultant will be SPSP’s contact for media referrals, write press releases, organize press conferences, and conduct media workshops for members, as well as build relationships with journal editors, science writers, university public information officers, government agencies, policy think tanks, and business leaders. Experience as a Public Information Officer with science writing background is highly preferred.

The public outreach consultant will work on average 8-10 hours per week at a competitive hourly rate and will attend SPSP’s major meetings. The position is scheduled to begin in July 2011.
