Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with diverse experience in the history of science and technology. Working with extensive archival collections covering the Lab’s 100-year institutional history, the successful candidate will be responsible for projects on the history of biotechnology at CSHL including the organization of meetings on the history of science as well as other small projects.

CSHL is a world-renowned research and educational institution recognized internationally for its excellence in ground-breaking research and educational activities. The project historian will join the CSHL Archives team, the members of which are working on a variety of historical projects, including basic processing of collections, digitization, oral history, and creation of websites and exhibitions.
A highly collaborative environment at CSHL provides a unique opportunity for the project historian to interact with scientists at all stages of their careers, as well as archivists, journalists, and other historians.

Key Responsibilities:
• Researching the history of biotechnology at CSHL.
• Interviewing scientists connected with major discoveries and developments in molecular biology and biotechnology.
• Collecting materials pertaining to the history of molecular biology and biotechnology.
• Conducting research on various scientific topics.

A graduate degree (master’s or PhD) in History and Philosophy of Science, Biological Sciences, Journalism, or a related discipline.

Candidate must have strong writing skills and research experience.
Grant writing experience a plus.
