Science Writers in New York (SWINY) presents author/scientist Ricki Lewis, author of the new high-impact book on gene therapy’s dramatic evolution from failure to success. Please join us as Ricki discusses the state of gene therapy and signs copies of her book.
Remember gene therapy? Once heralded as tomorrow’s magic bullet technique for curing human genetic diseases, it fell victim to some tragic failures, including human deaths. High-profile experimental programs were halted.
Good news! There’s now evidence-based reason for optimism that gene therapy will become a viable treatment for certain genetic diseases.
Ricki Lewis, who pays close attention to this field, has now woven together a captivating update in her new book, The Forever Fix: Gene Therapy and The Boy Who Saved It, published by St. Martin’s Press.
The fact that Lewis is an accomplished science journalist who also holds a PhD in genetics, is a genetics counselor, and has authored a genetics textbook means she is ideally equipped to tell the story—and it shows! The Forever Fix is garnering accolades from professional and amateur reviewers alike — see The Wall Street Journal, Science News and Amazon.
