Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center’s website has been nominated for The 2012 Webby Awards, the most prestigious international award honoring excellence on the internet. Selected from among nearly 10,000 total entries, the Center’s website was one of five nominated in the Health category.
World renowned for its commitment to exceptional and compassionate cancer care, the Center launched a redesigned online presence in November 2011. Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s website receives more than five million visits per year and is accessed by cancer patients and their families, medical professionals, researchers, and students from around the world. Our Public Affairs office is currently looking for a full-time Managing Editor to join our team.
The Managing Editor will plan, write, edit, and maintain a significant portion of MSKCC’s public website, providing audience-specific content tailored to the Center’s core audiences, in addition to collaborating with editorial and production staff to refresh, improve, and evolve the Center’s online presence, which includes blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
Strong editing skills and ability to translate scientific and medical information into lay-friendly language is key. Previous editing experience and capacity to handle a fast-paced, dynamic environment is required. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred in English, Journalism, Biology, or Science Writing. Three years experience presenting medical and scientific information to a general interest audience. Medical or scientific editing experience required. Experience managing and writing for social media preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
