Job Description:
NYU Langone Medical Center (NYULMC) is one of the nation’s premier centers of excellence in healthcare, biomedical research and medical education. Located in the heart of New York City, the Medical Center it is comprised of four hospitals including Tisch Hospital, the Hospital for Joint Diseases, Hassenfeld Pediatric Hospital, and Rusk Rehabilitation, as well as the NYU School of Medicine.
In this highly visible role, you will contribute to and support the development and execution of strategic PR programs by highlighting key scientific and research activities. Communications activities include:
developing media outreach strategies, press releases, and media pitches; fulfilling incoming media requests for experts; and serving as the key contact for scientific and research media requests. You may contribute and/or edit scientific and research content for NYULMC print publications and website as needed. Additionally, you will have frequent interactions with NYULMC faculty and leadership, including the Vice Dean for Research and faculty and staff within the Office for Science and Research.
The qualified candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, or communications. A master’s degree or PhD in science or science writing is preferred. The qualified candidate must also have five or more years of agency, government, non-profit or corporate communications/public relations experience translating complex scientific information for lay audiences, as well as in-depth knowledge of the PR landscape as it pertains to local and national scientific research. Existing relationships with key local/national science writers, and a proven track record of success in scientific communications are essential.
