Job Description:
Physics, a web-magazine run by the American Physical Society, seeks an Assistant Editor to join its editorial team for an initial period of six months with the possibility of extension.
The Assistant Editor will be responsible for identifying top papers in the APS journals, commissioning and editing commentaries (Viewpoints), and writing and editing short summaries (Synopses.) He/she will also be expected to contribute to editorials, press releases and the promotion of Physics content via social media, lab visits and conferences.
A PhD in physics or the physical sciences is required. Candidates must also demonstrate an excellent command of written and spoken English.
Some post-doctoral work or professional science writing and editing experience are strongly preferred.
The job demands a highly organized and motivated individual who is able to balance many assignments at once and meet strict deadlines. A knack for distilling technical results to an accessible message is a must. This position is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in a career in science writing or online publishing.

This full-time position is officially located at the editorial offices in Ridge, New York, close to Brookhaven National Laboratory and Stony Brook University and 60 miles from Manhattan.
