Job Description:
The Rockefeller University, a world-renowned biomedical research institute, seeks a temporary science writer to work on a part-time basis. Will be responsible for drafting press releases, website content and copy for publications and special projects in the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of two to four years of experience writing science copy for lay audiences in a communications, PR or consumer publication setting. Must be able to work independently to produce concise, polished, lively and accurate copy under tight deadlines. Must have education, background or strong interest in bioscience, the ability to communicate with and interview high level sources with confidence, and the intellect to work with highly technical material in a variety of biological specialties. Must be attentive to detail and possess excellent editorial judgment. Bachelor’s degree in English, communications or related field, or in biological sciences required. Master’s degree or equivalent work experience a plus.
In addition to science writing, assignments may include a limited amount of non-science writing, proofreading and fact-checking.
The temporary science writer will work in our Upper East Side offices three or more days per week on an hourly basis. Exact schedule and total hours are negotiable and may vary depending on workload. We anticipate this assignment to last through the spring. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
