Job Description
The School of Engineering & Applied Science is seeking a digital media editor to play a key role in building and shaping the story of Princeton Engineering across a range of digital media. The core work of the job is to build the engineering school’s social media presence and to curate content from many sources in order to shape a coherent and engaging narrative for a range of audiences.
The digital media editor also plays a leadership role across the engineering school by helping six engineering departments and multiple interdisciplinary centers make strategic decisions about using social media. Working closely with the director, senior editor, and web manager, the digital media editor will be an integral part of an accomplished, creative, and collaborative team that helps advance the teaching and research mission of the school and broader University.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
Create, collect, and curate social media content, particularly on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
Create and maintain a blog (on a platform such as Tumblr) to knit together internal and external news with special attention to alumni news and news about strategic priority areas of teaching and research.
Compile and shape a quarterly electronic newsletter, or multiple newsletter versions segmented to different audiences
Serve as managing editor for web content
Collaborate with the web development and design team to ensure that the content meets high graphic standards and to explore new technologies for storytelling.
Work with the web team to ensure static web content is up to date and is well integrated with the news and social content.
Manage the engineering school’s participation in the University-wide photo archive, tagging the school’s photo assets according the University schema, making the school’s content more easily searchable and useable across campus.
In conjunction with the director and senior editor, the Digital Media Editor will provide leadership to departments and centers, demonstrating best practices for sending newsletters and updating websites. This individual will meet regularly with centers and departments to promote their work and events and guide their own possible use of social media, and will work with the director and the University’s social media team to shape and integrate policies that improve and unite the use of social media across the engineering school.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years’ experience working in a deadline-oriented environment
Experience with multiple social media platforms
Proven skills translating complex topics in journalistic context
Track record of high creativity, quality, and volume of output in a time-sensitive, fast-paced and collaborative environment
Track record of accuracy and discretion in use of social media
