Job Description
Under the direction of the Assistant Director-Editorial, the Science Writer – Life and Physical Sciences, Communication Specialist, is responsible for the development and implementation of communication strategies that raise the profile of Purdue University and its research discoveries. Work to promote many of the university’s ambitious life and physical sciences initiatives. Duties and responsibilities may include generation of news releases, news coverage, facilitation of internal and external publicity and communications, including traditional, emerging and media.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, English or related field.
Three years of experience handling diverse communication efforts for a news or public relations organization.
Writing experience.
High level of professional writing skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to keep abreast of trends in the areas of higher education, research and technology.
Ability to explain and write about research in a way that is accessible to the lay audience.
Proficiency in word processing, electronic and social media.
Preferred:
Graduate or Professional level training in journalism or marketing/communication.
Additional training in the sciences.
Experience in social media and higher education.
Additional Information:
A background check will be required for employment in this position.
FLSA: Exempt (Not Eligible for Overtime).
