Job Title: Managing Editor
Type: Full-time
Employer: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
Location: New York, NY
Job Description
We are looking for a high-energy, experienced, thoughtful, and committed Managing Editor who is a talented wordsmith and skilled at dealing with technical content, has helped manage a publication, is social media savvy, works well with others, and has the fire in the belly to help nurture the growth of the well-respected and award-winning flagship publication of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers).
Working as a close partner with the Editorial Director/Editor-in-Chief, the Managing Editor/Technical Content will coordinate the jigsaw puzzle that is a monthly publication—content, style, copy editing/proofreading, design and layout, production—and make sure everything gets done on time. The Managing Editor will also oversee the dissemination of digital content through existing and new digital platforms.
The Managing Editor will also help lead the implementation of an increasingly integrated department supporting ASME’s new technology-focus areas and burgeoning business lines. Duties include integrating content for custom digital and print publishing packages and coordinating staff involvement in webinars and multimedia dissemination platforms. The Managing Editor will also help integrate content across the broader Technical Events and Content department.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years’ editorial/content experience and 3 years as Managing Editor or similar role (a background in technology is a plus). The Managing Editor will be a first-rate writer and editor; a self-starter who is goal oriented and strictly enforces deadlines; a strong team player; and someone who has experience in business development.
