Monday, August 3, 7 pm ET on Zoom
On Monday, August 3, Science Writers in New York invites you to join us on Zoom for a conversation with SWINY co-chair David Levine and award-winning journalist Roxanne Khamsi, one of the first reporters to write about COVID-19. They will discuss her coverage of COVID-19, why she wrote about it so early, and her transition from working as a full-time editor at Nature Medicine to freelance journalist.
Roxanne Khamsi’s articles have appeared in publications such as The Economist, WIRED magazine, and The New York Times Magazine. Recognition for Roxanne’s writing includes the American Medical Writers Association’s Walter C. Alvarez Award and a first-place award from the Association of Health Care Journalists. For more than a decade, she served as chief news editor at the international biomedical journal Nature Medicine.
In addition to her work as a writer and editor, she has taught at Stony Brook University’s Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science and at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York. Roxanne earned her degree in biology from Dartmouth College, with a concentration in genetics.
