What Will COVID Look Like this Summer and Will There Be a New Vaccine in the Fall?
A Virtual Conversation with
Dr. John Moore
Thursday, May 26, at 7 PM EDT on Zoom
COVID cases are at their highest levels since last November. The U.S. could see 100 million COVID infections this fall and winter—and potentially a sizable wave of deaths, according to the White House. Yet, no one is calling for mask mandates to be reinstated.
Moderna released data that supports its strategy to develop a booster shot combining different versions of the coronavirus. Will it work? Will it be needed?
Science Writers in New York is pleased to once again present Dr. John Moore, professor of microbiology and immunology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Moore, an expert on vaccine research, will talk to SWINY co-chair David Levine (@dlloydlevine) about the rise of COVID cases in New York City and across the country, mask policies and vaccination strategies.
About Dr. John Moore
John P. Moore, PhD, professor of microbiology and immunology at Weill Cornell Medicine, is known for his research on HIV/AIDS. He previously worked at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center. He received his BA, MA, MPhil, and PhD degrees from Cambridge University, UK. He joined Weill Cornell in 2000. The focus of his research has been on the HIV-1 envelope glycoproteins. He directs several NIH and other sponsored grants.
Dr. Moore was one of 270 physicians, scientists and healthcare workers who signed an open letter to Spotify calling on Spotify to implement a better misinformation policy. The letter called out one show in particular: the Joe Rogan Experience. The writers noted that, “By allowing the propagation of false and societally harmful assertions, Spotify is enabling its hosted media to damage public trust in scientific research and sow doubt in the credibility of data-driven guidance offered by medical professionals.”
On January 26, Spotify said that it would remove Neil Young’s music after he posted a public letter calling on Spotify to choose between him and Joe Rogan, who he accused of spreading misinformation about the coronavirus and vaccines.
