The objectives of the Office of External Affairs are to highlight and promote the many and varied achievements of our faculty and students.

Weill Cornell Medical College’s Office of External Affairs is seeking one to two interns to become a part of its communications team. The internship is geared toward students interested in communications, public relations, journalism or a related course of study.


  • Assist in drafting press releases, online stories and other written
    materials for publication
  • Proofread and copy edit communications including press releases, online stories and other written materials for publication
  • Conduct research for Editorial, Social Media and Development teams
  • Draft Web assets in HTML
  • Assist with compiling targeted media lists and pitching story ideas to media outlets
  • Attend shoots with media
  • Track media coverage and compile lists of media updates
  • Attend communications and development events and help plan logistics as needed
  • Monitor social media including Facebook and Twitter, steer social media initiatives, and draft social media posts
  • Maintain database of videos and photos
  • Assist in the shooting and editing of multimedia products

WCMC is in the process of expanding its offering of multimedia materials with aggressive distribution through various social media and other web platforms. The intern will have an opportunity to assist and apply production talents and abilities to further develop this initiative.

The internship will run for 10-15 weeks beginning as soon as possible.
Interns are expected to work 20 – 30 hours a week and will be paid $15/hour. Eligible students may receive academic credit for their internship.

Interns need strong verbal and written communication skills. An interest in health care or science is a plus. Strong computer skills, basic understanding of the Microsoft Office suite and the Internet are a must.

Position Summary:
Responsible for:

  • Writing and reviewing clinical study-related documents (e.g., protocols, clinical study reports, investigator brochures)
  • Review and analysis of study data, and interpretation and summarization of the study results
  • Scientific expertise in order to contribute to protocol development and data interpretation

Estimated Time Allocation:

  • Prepare clinical protocols, Investigator brochures and supplements these documents (draft outlines and write protocols; coordinate review meetings; prepare amendments as needed, finalize and version-control
    documents) 30%
  • Coordinate, review and revise clinical study reports (critically review CSRs for accuracy, adherence to the protocol, and overall content; coordinate inter-departmental reviews; compile information for appendices) 25%
  • Search and review literature sources in order to contribute to study designs and data interpretation (focusing on therapeutic areas, biomarkers, methodology, trial designs/results, competitors’ products), and summarize/present findings 10%
  • Prepare and review clinical and non-clinical data summaries for regulatory submissions (investigators brochures and supplements, as well as INDs and annual reports) 15%
  • Review data listings, TLFs, and prepare top line data presentations as needed 10%
  • Review trial-related documents from other departments (case report forms, statistical analysis plans, informed consent forms) 5%

Experience Needed:

  • Minimum of 2 years (10 with a BS) of experience writing and reviewing clinical trial-related documents within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Strong scientific background and medical writing skills; knowledge of GLPs, GCPs, ICH guidelines and requirements for the successful conduct of clinical trials; strong computer skills
  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work well in inter-departmental groups
  • Graduate degree in a science/life sciences discipline or equivalent/related education or BS with extensive experience
  • The work is performed in an office environment most of the time.
  • Travel is required on an as-needed basis (e.g., for training, site visits and meetings).

Searching for a senior editor with prior medical publishing, medical communications experience. A Master’s degree or higher in biologic sciences or healthcare field is required.

Candidates should have the ability to analyze and interpret complex clinical data to assist in developing continuing education activities in various formats. This is a diversified position that requires a take-charge, organized, enthusiastic person who can handle multiple assignments and deadlines.

Candidates should have experience working with medical faculty as well as assisting in the research and content development for preparation of manuscripts, slides, needs assessments, and online programs in multiple disease states.
